Sunday July 27 We Rested

Sunday mornings are quiet at camp. Some campers and counselors go to church and some write letters and some hang out. The weather looked iffy, so only a small group went to the beach while others walked to Vineyard Haven and bought expensive presents for their parents.
(I think that's what they bought.)

After dinner, we made a mad dash to Oak Bluffs to ride the Flying Horses, a favorite camp tradition. A few campers caught the brass ring. We all won free rides.
We all got wet, too. Just part of the fun.

Afterwards, some of the campers went to bed. Some frolicked around the main cabin while Vickie and Nathan played the piano.

Saturday July 26

We finished the felting project by rolling, rolling, rolling until all the pieces were well mashed together.(Not sure if "mashed" is the technical term, but that's how it looked.

A few were more involved in the rolling process than others, but everyone managed to have a good time.

Which led into a really good time including a spontaneous dance party to Queen music.

We managed to find time to stop for refreshments on the way to the beach, and make an appearance at the Jabberwocky art display at Featherstone Gallery.

What's more high fashion than Jabberwocky wear?

It was a beautiful day at the beach.

Check out these beauties!

I give up!

To end the day right we drove to West Chop for the sunset.

Some of the campers did the limbo under the gates to get to the dock.

Even though the sun managed to hide behind a cloud as soon as we arrived, we managed to enjoy the sunset.

July 25 - Here Comes the Sun

After an evening of rain, thunder and all that stuff, we awoke to clouds and puddles. We decided to have camp anyway (like we had a choice) and started off with "Music with Vickie".

And here she is, inspiring us with a Camp Jabberwocky song she just invented.

We had a felting class with a visiting artist, (thanks, Krista) where we wet felt and wool and somehow mashed them all together with water and olive oil soap. The finished product will be three strings of prayer flags.

Thank you ladies. Can't wait to see the finished product. (Keep Tuned)

The studio was a perfect spot for a some heated soccer games which we played with gusto (kinda like pesto with sweat and laughter) and much cheering.

And Cy goes for the goal.......... It's good!!!!!!!

Michael winds up, and whacks Zach in the head. Molly laughs.

The skies cleared, and so, to the beach we go.

Craig got his new beach shoes wet. Tomorrow, it will be his ankles. (maybe)

Paul, Dylan, and Justin practice floating.

Jeremy hitches a ride to the water. Go Molly.

After dinner, we attended the Vineyard Sound's concert at the Tabernacle. They had 3 encores, so we returned home very late. Thus, the blog is a day behind. (already)

July 24 - The Campers are Here!

The counselors arrived from far and wide, and spent a few days making the camp spit-spot. They also practiced hanging out on the beach and even had some classes on safety and camper care. They were eager to greet the campers and start things rolling.

The ferry ride over involved handing out bread to the gulls.

The campers and their parents were waiting for us.

The ride back involved catching up with old friends, and making some new ones.

Winslow, Kacey and Jack ham it up.

And here's the welcoming committee. They brought the bus because it had been pouring all morning and they didn't want soggy campers/luggage. And the bus made the dock look quite festive.

Right after lunch some of the brave (or determined) headed off to do the thing we always do on the first day....(hint - it involves sand and salt water)  but it was raining so most of us stayed back and hung out in the studio to sing and dance and make merry.(whatever that means)

We finished off the evening with an amazing viewing of the movie, The Incredibles. We had an earlyish bed time, but its only so we can save up for an exciting day tomorrow. Our crew is still figuring things out, but everyone seems full of love, and that is all you need to throw a fantastic camp.......It was a very good first day.
